US CDC Data: 45 Deaths in Maine From COVID Shots, Dr. Nirav Shah Disagrees
VAERS data shows a total of 4,474 individual Mainers have reported at least 1 adverse reaction to the COVID-19 vaccines. Nearly half are under 50 years of age.
On Monday, departing Maine CDC Director and incoming US CDC Deputy Director Dr. Nirav Shah appeared on NPR affiliate WBUR to sit down with Jennifer Rooks on Maine Calling for a final time. Over the last 3 years, he has appeared on the show more than 40 times.
Jennifer Rooks hosts this show 5 days each week and is a skilled interviewer. She was the gubernatorial debate moderator in the last election and is considered by many to be a trusted voice.
Rooks started the show with a “walk down “memory lane.” Dr. Shah. listened to several clips of his past appearances on Maine Calling, including a “powerful” moment when a “vaccine hesitant” caller stated, “I’m glad that you were able to talk to me, because maybe I will get the vaccine.”
The majority of the show cosistanted of caller comments, messages and tweets that showered Dr. Shah with complements, thanks and well wishes as he moves on to bigger and better things with the US CDC. The callers screened by Rook’s producers asked no less than 3 questions about masking. Another question asked Dr. Shah to pick a song to describe his time at the ME CDC.
There were only 2 interactions that could be considered critical of Dr. Shah during the show. The first was a caller who asked what Dr. Shah would say to parents who had lost children due to the vaccine. Shah responded by thanking the caller and stating,“One thing is clear, the vaccines saves lives…” and added that, “Anyone who tells you that the vaccines are causing death, is not looking at the data.” He went on to call the shots “one of the defining miracles of the 21st century so far.”

US CDC Data Conflicts With Dr. Shah’s Statements
“Anyone who tells you that the vaccines are causing death, is not looking at the data.”
- Dr. Nirav Shah, outgoing ME CDC Director
Although it’s not clear what “data” Dr. Shah is referring to, his future employer maintains two databases that do in fact track COVID-19 Vaccine adverse reactions - including death. US CDC has maintained the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System since 2001 and launched a smart phone based app known and V-safe to track COVID-19 specific reactions in 2021.
US CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, commonly known as VAERS, “accepts reports of adverse events and reactions that occur following vaccination. Healthcare providers, vaccine manufacturers, and the public can submit reports to the system.” The US CDC also states that, “The strengths of VAERS are that it is national in scope and can quickly provide an early warning of a safety problem with a vaccine. As part of CDC and FDA’s multi-system approach to post-licensure vaccine safety monitoring, VAERS is designed to rapidly detect unusual or unexpected patterns of adverse events, also known as “safety signals.”
VAERS data shows a total of 4,474 individual Mainers have reported at least 1 adverse reaction to the COVID-19 vaccines. This includes 23 cases of myocarditis, 9 miscarriages, 217 hospitalizations, 86 permanent disabilities and 45 deaths.
Nearly half of all reports of adverse reactions to VAERS were from Mainers under the age of 50.
It’s necessary to note that the VAERS reporting system is passive, meaning that it does not indicate the actual total numbers of adverse reactions. The numbers shown above should indicate a substantial undercount of actual adverse reactions in Maine. The Lazarus report from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care in 2009 estimated that only 1% of all adverse reactions are reported to VAERS.
Given world wide, universal effort to the COVID-19 Vaccine rollout, it’s likely that the the report to VARES indicate a higher percentage than the actual number of Mainers that had an adverse reaction. But how much higher?
The Informed Consent Action Network (ICAN) successfully obtained V-safe Data from the US CDC after two separate FOIA requests and lawsuits. ICAN reports that, “The CDC created v-safe, a smartphone-based program, to collect health assessments after Covid-19 vaccination. Approximately 10 million people signed-up and submitted health reports after Covid-19 vaccination.”
Of the 10 million users, 7.8% reported an adverse reaction that required medical attention. The nature of this medical attention and the seriousness is difficult to parse out due to the limited pre-populated data fields. For example, myocarditis is not a pre-populated field even though the heart condition is a known potential adverse reaction to the COVID-19 .
Given the COVID-19 specific data from the V-safe system, it seems more probable than not that the 4,474 VAERS reports in Maine is a significant undercount. As of today, Maine CDC reports that 1,021,601 Mainers are considered fully vaccinated. Using the V-safe rate of adverse reactions requiring medical attention of 7.8% as a guide, this would mean that an astounding 80,000 Mainers have experienced a serious enough adverse reaction that it would required medical attention.
Even if the VAERS data were to represent the total actual adverse reactions to the vaccines in Maine, it would still demonstrate a much higher risk than Dr. Shah or the ME CDC has communicated to the people of Maine. The VAERS data indicates that Mainer faced significant risks when taking the COVID-19 shot. Again, using the ME CDC’s official count of Fully Vaccinated Mainers, deaths occurred at a minimum rate of 4.5 per 100k and hospitalization at 21.2 per 100k.
By all indications from the US CDC - these numbers represent an undercount of the actual COVID-19 Vaccine adverse events suffered by real Mainers. The US CDC Dataguide states that, “The term, underreporting, refers to the fact that VAERS receives reports for only a small fraction of actual adverse events.”
Dr. Shah’s statements during Jennifer Rooks’ Maine Calling do not indicate an understanding or acknowledgment of these US CDC Databases. Moreover, Dr. Shah neglects to acknowledge the 45 Maine families that have lost a loved one after trusting his recommendations to receive the shots.
To date, there have been 33,904 deaths reported to VAERS and 1,509,410 adverse reactions in total across the US.
Are Shah’s statements an indicator of how he will interpret these necessary and vital data? If so, the United States should expect the new #2 man at the US CDC to ignore the reports of those who have been injured by these vaccines.
