Ed Thelander Claims "Most" hospitalizations are vaccinated. He's right.
Republican Congressional Candidate Contradicts Press Herald reporter’s safety and efficacy claims, sites "ME CDC Website"
Ed Thelander, Retired Navy Seal and Republican Candidate for Mainers 1st Congressional district seat, took a Portland Press Herald reporter to task in response to a debate question about the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines.
After rambling on about the how great the vaccines have been, Portland Press Herald Reporter Joe Lawlor asked Mr. Thelander if he “had any reason to doubt the safety and efficacy of the COVID vaccines.”
Mr. Thelander’s response was simple and accurate.
“The Maine CDC’s website.”
Mr. Thelander went on to state that, “It says that most of those in there (hospital) right now are fully vaccinated. It very much contradicts what you are saying… Since March of this year, most of those hospitalized are vaccinated.”
He’s correctly referring to Maine CDC’s Breakthrough Data Updates from March 4 to September 20. According to the ME CDC’s Data, the Fully Vaccinated make up 76% of Maine’s population, 73% of new hospitalizations (968 1327) and 73.5% of reported deaths (295 OF 400) associated with COVID-19 (SOURCES: : 3/4 Breakthrough Data Update and 9/20 Breakthrough Data Update).
In matter of seconds, Mr. Thelander accomplished something that Joe Lawler has refused to do for 14 months. That is- correctly report on publicly available breakthrough data from the ME CDC. This data is the only real world data collected by the agency to demonstrate efficacy and is updated weekly. And yet, news media outlets like the Portland Press Herald have neglected to provide this data to the people of Maine.
Mr. Thelander finished his answer with a great sign off.
“So feel free to fact check me on that, but I believe that to be right and true.”
It is indeed, right and true, Mr. Thelander.
It is indeed.
Below is the full exchange between Mr. Thelander and Joe Lawlor.

Live not by lies. Seek the Truth.
About time someone said something. Should be very potent political ammo. The data has been blasted to all of these political and media personalities for more than half a year. Slack Jaw Joe couldn't believe someone else was bringing up state reported breakthrough data, on live TV no less. The irony of having that thrown back in his face is priceless. Thanks Ed for dropping that line. Doubt we will ever see another update on the MECDC website for breakthrough data.
