Dr. Shah Honored as Fully Vaccinated Deaths Spike in Maine
Maine has the highest COVID-19 Death Rate in the nation, 78% are FULLY VACCINATED.
On Thursday, January 12, Maine CDC Director Nirav Shah announced that he would be leaving Maine and “answering the call” of US CDC Director Wilenski. He has been named as the Principle Deputy Director, filling the federal agency’s number 2 slot.
Much has could be and has been said about his short stint in Maine. The legacy media took to social networks to gush and fawn over Shah and Governor Mills issued a statement praising him for sharing “the unvarnished truth… as best we know it.”
There is so many directions that we could go to from Gov. Mills statement, each raising questions and pointing to data that demonstrate Shah’s incompetence or dishonesty. Perhaps the most notable way of understanding Dr. Shah’s legacy of obfuscation of true is to simply observe the last week of COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Data that his office updates each week.
On the day Dr. Shah announced his departure, COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped significantly from 145 on 1/10 to 121 on 1/12.
This of course appears to be good news. Maybe the new XBB variant isn’t that serious, as Dr. Shah has reported. Or maybe those new booster are finally taking effect. Dr. Shah has continued to push ::advertise:: the new jabs and has claimed that they are effective against the new virus strain.
What else could cause hospitalizations to drop so quickly?
Maine Has the Highest COVID-19 Death Rate in the Nation
As Dr. Shah announced his departure and took the rounds of congratulations over the last week, Mainers suffered the deadliest week of the winter so far. From 1/9/23 to 1/16/23, Maine CDC Data added 34 deaths associated with COVID-19.
From the NYT COVID-19 Data Tracker, over the last 14 days Mainer’s are dying of/with COVID-19 at a higher rate than any other state.
Dr. Shah’s Maine CDC COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Data shows that 26 of the 34 deaths, or 76.5%, were fully vaccinated.
From 01/02/23 to 01/16/23, the ME CDC data updates show that 78.5% of deaths (51 of 65) and 80.2% of new hospitalizations (138 of 172) were fully vaccinated. The majority of deaths (34) have taken place in the last week.
Using the population data listed on the ME CDC website, the fully vaccinated are dying and being hospitalized at a higher rate than their unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated. So far in 2023, the fully vaccinated have a 17% higher mortality rate and a 22% higher hospitalization rate.
Though a small sample size, this should be cause for concern given the new XBB variant. One would think it would be in the news and on the front page of newspapers. Dr. Shah should be peppered with the obvious public health related questions concerning why the vaccinated are fairing worse than the unvaccinated.
As Dr. Shah rides off into the sunset and the Maine media scrounges for his attention and approval, fully vaccinated Mainers are dying and being hospitalized for COVID-19 at a higher rate than unvaccinated Maine residents. Those fully vaccinated are the very individuals who trusted Dr. Shah to give them the “unvarnished truth” and to share vital, relevant data in a timely and clear manor. Dr. Shah is neglecting his duty as the states top public health official - but at this point, should we expect anything else?

Live not by lies. Seek the Truth.
Thank you for continuing to report the NYT stats. They are behind a paywall but paint a very stark contrast to Maines ultra successful vaccination program that was supposed to "stop the virus in its tracks".
