42 Fully Vaccinated Mainers Have Died in the last 2 Weeks
COVID-19 Hospitalizations Drop, but related deaths are still increasing
Over the past 2 weeks, 82.3% of deaths related to COVID-19 have been fully vaccinated. The ME CDC updates COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Cases, Hospitalizations and Deaths on a weekly basis. This past updated showed that between 10/31 and 11/14, a total of 51 Mainers were added to the COVID-19 Death count, including 42 Fully Vaccinated Mainers (Sources: ME CDC COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Data Updates, 10/31, 11/14)
According to ME CDC Data, 61% of those deaths were in their 80’s, 28.5% were over 70 years old. It’s not surprising then, that they were fully vaccinated, as the majority of this age group has taken the shot. What should be surprising - or at least alarming - that this highly vaccinated and boosted group are still dying of/with COVID-19. Since the onset of COVID-19 in Maine, 73% of deaths have been individuals over 70. This most recent sample size of deaths is happening in the most vaccinated population, and at a larger percentage of all deaths related to COVID-19.
On August 6, 2021, ME CDC produced the first Breakthrough Report containing hospitalizations and deaths. Since August 6, ME CDC Data has shown that more than 50% of deaths associated with COVID-19 have been Fully Vaccinated.
Since March of 2022, the percentage of deaths associated with COVID-19 among fully vaccinated Mainers has increased steadily. In all, the fully vaccinated have made up 74% of all deaths related to COVID-19 (392 of 529) in Maine since March 4. (Sources: ME CDC COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Data Updates, 3/4/22 and 11/14/22.
